Florida’s state prison system is at maximum capacity, but this does not seem to be the biggest problem. Along with being one of the most overcrowded state prison systems in the nation, Florida’s Department of Corrections has experienced a number of state prison inmate suicides and suspect deaths, but little is being done to change the Florida State Prison system. When the Florida Department of Corrections Secretary Michael Crews visited Dade Correctional Institution (a Florida State Prison) to show that the Florida Department of Corrections and Florida Government are taking the issues in their Florida State Prison system seriously, Dade Correctional Institute’s management was trying to cover the suspicious death of one of its Florida State Prison inmates. The subsequent issues of a neglected and overpopulated Florida state prison system results in a high number of released Florida State Prison inmates actually ending up back in the Florida state prison Department of Corrections because Florida State Prison inmates have little to no support once they leave the Florida prison system.
